New encrypted Tape Drive from IBM
For consumers, especially in the healthcare and financial services, who want to regulate data loss, IBM has launched an encrypted tape drive capable of encrypting data in the drive itself. It has the capability to manage and organize tapes for data back up and retrieval.
The 1.5 TB capacity versatile TS1120 tape drive is reasonably priced and has the following features:
- Encryption support for z/OS, z/VM, i5/OS, AIX, HP, Sun, Linux and Windows platforms
- Is capable of being integrated with Tivoli Storage Manager
- Does away with the requirement for host-based encryption systems or separate appliances
- Can be set up in IBM and Sun/StorageTek tape libraries
- Supports key management with the IBM Encryption Key Manager for Java which has standard key repositories and data encryption is done by application, system or tape library
- Uses 3592 cartridges – these have the configuration options for read-write / not rewritable, multiple reading (WORM).
